Praza do Obradoiro, s/n, 15704 Santiago de Compostela, A Coruña, Spain

The Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela is one of the most important Christian sites in Europe and a major pilgrimage destination for Catholics. Located in the heart of Spain’s Galicia region, this grand and impressive building dates back to the Middle Ages when it was built as a shrine to Saint James, who is said to be buried inside. Visitors can admire its exquisite architecture including its main entrance, Portico de la Gloria that features three limestone doorways designed by sculptor Maestro Mateo and depicting scenes from religious stories. The interior is also breathtaking with its two naves divided by columns and adorned with frescoes and stained glass windows. Don’t miss out on seeing the Magnificent Altar or Caliz de Plata–a silver ornate cup used for displaying the contents of a relic believed to be an arm bone belonging to St James himself.
