Visit Al Qadarif

Al Qadarif is a province located in the eastern part of Sudan. The region has an abundance of lush greenery and vibrant wildlife, making it a popular tourist destination. Visitors to Al Qadarif can explore its diverse landscape full of scenic mountain ranges and wide open spaces. One of the must-see attractions is the city of Dongola, which was once the capital city for medieval Christian Nubia. Tourists can also explore Merowe Dam, an impressive hydropower plant on the Nile River that supplies electricity to much of northern Sudan.

For those looking to immerse themselves in history and culture, Al Qadarif offers plenty to see. In addition to Dongola's ancient ruins there is also Gebel Barkal - an ancient sacred mountain site with archaeological remains from various cultures that spans 2000 years! For more contemporary sights there's also Merowe Town, home to traditional mud-brick houses and bustling markets selling everything from spices to jewelry.

An interesting historical fact about Al Qadarif is that one its most famous sons was former president Omar al-Bashir who governed Sudan from 1989 until 2019 when he was overthrown by pro-democracy protests demanding political change in the country.
