The Saramacca are an indigenous people living in the tropical rainforest of Suriname. One of their main activities is subsistence farming, but they also engage in some hunting and gathering. They are known for their colorful traditional clothing, made from plant fibers, feathers, and beads. The Saramacca are mainly concentrated around the towns of Albina and Moengo on Suriname's north coast, close to the border with French Guiana.

Tourists visiting the area can explore local life by taking a canoe trip along one of the many rivers that flow through Saramacca territory. While there you can visit a traditional healing center known as "the bush doctor" which specializes in natural remedies based on plants from the rainforest. For an exciting day out you can also take a dip at Bigi Pan which is located near Moengo and is home to many species of fish as well as vibrant coral reefs that make it ideal for snorkeling or diving.

A historical fact about this ethnic group is that they were once enslaved by Dutch colonists during early colonial rule in Suriname before gaining independence in 1975. To this day they remain proud custodians of their culture where visitors are warmly welcomed into their villages to learn more about their way of life.
