Visit Jönköping County

Jonkoping County is a county in southern Sweden that borders the Baltic Sea. It's known for its tranquil lakes, vast forests, and rolling hills. The area has a rich history tied to the Vikings and is filled with castles and monuments from that era.

The Granna observation tower offers spectacular views of Lake Vattern and is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the area. Travellers can also explore the remains of Husaby Church, an 11th-century stone church which was once part of a Viking fortress. There are many opportunities for outdoor recreation including fishing, swimming, canoeing, hiking and more.

One interesting historical fact about Jonkoping County is that it was home to one of Sweden's most influential medieval kings - Erik IX (Erik Jedvardsson), often referred to as "the Saint" or "the Holy King" who led Scandinavia during its period of christianization around 1150 AD. He was buried at Husaby Church where he had been murdered by his rival king Charles VII in 1160 AD.
