Visit Östergötland County


The Ostergotland County of Sweden is located in the southeastern part of the country and borders Sodermanland, Vastmanland, and Kalmar counties. The county is known for its stunning nature, with many forests, meadows, and lakes. It also has an impressive cultural history being home to over 1000 castles and ruins.

One popular tourist destination in Ostergotland County is the Royal Palace of Visingsborg which dates back to the 12th century. This castle was once a royal residence used by Swedish royalty but now serves as a museum with guided tours available throughout the summer months. Another interesting place to visit is Omberg National Park which offers visitors breathtaking views of the lake from its highest peak at 193 meters above sea level.

An interesting historical fact about Ostergotland County is that it was one of Sweden's original provinces when it formed in 1634. During this time it was ruled by various noble families who had their own separate laws until 1811 when all counties were unified under a single set of laws.
