Visit Ticino

Ticino is a canton of Switzerland located in the south of the country, bordering Italy. Its capital is Bellinzona and its official language is Italian. It is known for its breathtaking views, comprising Alpine peaks and lush valleys with rushing rivers.

The most popular tourist destination in Ticino is Lake Lugano, where visitors can enjoy its picturesque scenery, quaint villages, and excellent shopping opportunities. Bellinzona Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000, offers magnificent views from atop its three medieval castles perched on a hillside overlooking the city. There are also many hiking trails throughout Ticino that offer wonderful views of nature and wildlife.

Historically speaking, Ticino was part of the Roman Empire until 476 AD when it became part of an independent kingdom called Kingdom of Burgundy which included parts of present-day Italy's Lombardy region as well as France and Germany's Rhineland-Palatinate region before being annexed by Rome in 1032 AD. Today it remains an important cultural hub between Switzerland and Italy due to its close proximity to both countries' borders as well as its unique culture influenced by both nations over centuries past.
