Visit Daraa Governorate

The Daraa Governorate of Syria, located in the southwest corner of the country, is known for its historical significance and natural beauty. The ancient city of Bosra is one of the area's most popular tourist destinations, with a castle from the Roman Empire as well as many other historic sites. Another must-see location is Saidnaya Monastery, a Christian pilgrimage site dating back to the 6th century.

The governorate has seen much conflict in recent years due to its proximity to both Jordan and Israel. Nevertheless, it has managed to maintain its unique culture and vibrant atmosphere. The local cuisine reflects this diversity with dishes such as Freekeh (made from roasted green wheat) being especially popular.

For those looking for a unique cultural experience, Daraa Governorate offers plenty to explore. An interesting fact about this area is that it was one of few regions that remained loyal during the Great Syrian Revolt between 1925-1927 when Druze rebel leader Sultan Pasha al-Atrash held his last stand against French forces here before being defeated in 1927.
