Visit Ḩamāh

Hamah is a city located in the western part of Syria, on the banks of the Orontes River. It is considered to be an ancient city, with evidence of its existence dating back to the 2nd millennium BC. Its historic center has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site and its stunning architecture has earned it the nickname "The Bride of the Orontes".

As a tourist destination, Hamah offers something for everyone; from its vibrant markets to historical sites like Qala'at al-Mudik and Khan As'ad Pasha. There are also plenty of recreational activities available including hiking in Krak des Chevaliers or kayaking on Lake Qaraoun.

An interesting fact about Hamah is that during World War I it was occupied by Allied forces for around three years before being reclaimed by Ottoman Empire forces in October 1918. It then remained under Ottoman rule until 1925 when it became part of Syria's French mandate government.
