Visit Penghu

Penghu is an archipelago of 64 islands located in the Taiwan Strait off the coast of Taiwan. It is a popular tourist destination due to its beautiful beaches, historical sites and unique geology. The Penghu National Scenic Area boasts several attractions, including the historic Erkan Old Street and Tianhou Temple, which was built in 1695 by fishermen to protect them from sea monsters. Other sights include Tien-lung Shan mountain range, Xiyu Islet and the Erkan Lighthouse Ruins.

The main island - Magong City - hosts a variety of cultural events throughout the year such as the International Fireworks Festival in April and Dragon Boat Races during Dragon Boat Festival in June/July. In addition, there are plenty of exciting activities for visitors like windsurfing, scuba diving and rock climbing.

An interesting historical fact about Penghu is that it was occupied by Dutch forces from 1624-1662 who built several fortifications around the islands. These can still be seen today at Chimei Fort Museum which sits on a hill overlooking Qiwei Park and Xiyu Islet just off Magong City's coast.
