Visit Geita Region

Geita Region is a province located in the northwest of Tanzania. It borders with Mwanza, Mara and Shinyanga regions. Covering an area of approximately 16,000 square kilometers and with a population of around 1 million inhabitants, the region has developed as an important gold mining hub over recent years.

The region boasts some interesting places to visit that tourists may find fascinating. One highlight is Geita Town which was used by German traders in the late 19th century as a base for trading ivory and slaves at what was then known as "Mwadui Market". Another place worth visiting is the nearby Lake Victoria Marine National Park where visitors can enjoy boating activities such as fishing or snorkeling among other activities.

One interesting historical fact about this region is that it played an important role during World War I when Germany used it to supply arms and ammunition to their troops in East Africa before being defeated by British soldiers who eventually took control of the area in 1916 after fierce battles in what was known as "The Battle of Tabora".
