Visit Kagera


The Kagera Region of Tanzania is a unique corner of the country with varied geography and cultural heritage. From lush green mountains to massive plains, the region has plenty for tourists to explore. Home to numerous traditional tribes such as the Wasambaa and Nyakyusa, visitors can learn about their unique culture through meeting local people.

One popular tourist spot is Lake Victoria, located in the north of the region and bordering Uganda and Kenya. It is an excellent spot for fishing, bird watching and other outdoor activities. Another must-see destination is Rubondo Island National Park which covers nearly 100 square kilometers of pristine wetland habitat home to many rare species including chimpanzees, giraffes and African elephants.

An interesting fact about Kagera Region's history is that it was once part of German East Africa during colonial times from 1891 until 1919 when it became part of British mandate territory after World War I.
