Visit Mara

The Mara Region of Tanzania is a picturesque and diverse area in the northern part of the country. It's well known for its spectacular scenery, wildlife, and culture. Located on the Serengeti Plains near Lake Victoria, the Mara features a range of habitats including open grasslands, swamps, woodlands, and forests. Tourists come to experience its incredible variety of fauna such as lions, elephants, leopards, cheetahs and more than 500 species of birds.

Adventurers should visit the iconic Masai Mara National Reserve to witness some of Africa's most impressive wildlife in their natural environment. The reserve is also home to traditional Maasai villages where visitors can learn about their customs and ways of life from local guides.

The region has a long history that dates back centuries before Tanzania became an independent nation. Interesting historical facts include that it was once ruled by Chief Narok - who transformed his kingdom into one large pastoral collective - and was famed for its iron smelting industry during the colonial era.
