Visit Njombe Region

Njombe is a province in southwestern Tanzania, bordering Zambia to the west and Malawi to the south. The area is known for its rugged landscape of mountains and hills, along with its numerous rivers and waterfalls. The Njombe Region is home to several ethnic groups, including the Hehe, Kinga, Kisi, Ngindo and Nyaturu people.

Tourists visiting this region should explore the majestic Mufindi Falls nearby Iringa town or take a tour of Boma Ng'ombe Natural Reserve near Njombe town. Both offer scenic views of rolling hillside landscapes as well as opportunities for wildlife viewing in their respective nature reserves.

Historically speaking it was here that Chief Mkwawa founded the Hehe Kingdom in 1882 after leading a successful rebellion against German colonial rule; his remains are now enshrined at Mahongole Forest in Njombe district. This region has also been affiliated with Dr Livingstone who passed through on his expeditions into central Africa from 1871-1873 as he explored Lake Tanganyika's tributaries at Ufiome village near Luhombero Town.
