Visit Ruvuma

The Ruvuma Region of Tanzania is a diverse and beautiful area in the southern part of the country. Its landscapes range from lush valleys to rolling hills, while its inhabitants are predominantly members of small-scale agriculture and pastoralist societies. The region has undergone rapid changes in recent years as a result of growing economic activity, which has led to an increased demand for tourist attractions.

One popular destination in Ruvuma is Kitulo National Park, which boasts colorful wildflowers and over 300 species of birds. Another great attraction is Mloka Village, where visitors can learn about traditional village customs and explore inhabited caves that were once used by ancient hunter-gatherers.

Ruvuma also has a rich historical background dating back several centuries ago when it was part of the Great Zimbabwe kingdom. Archaeological evidence suggests that this powerful kingdom traded with merchants from countries such as Portugal and India during the 15th century CE. Today, many artifacts from this period can be seen at various archaeological sites across the region including Songa Ruins near Songea Town.
