Visit Ruvuma Region

The Ruvuma Region of Tanzania is home to beautiful wildlife, rich cultural heritage and stunning landscapes. Located in the southeast of the country near Lake Nyasa, this region borders both Mozambique and Malawi. Analyzed by its geography, it can be divided into two parts: a lowland area with terraced fields supported by rivers, and a hilly area covered in tropical forests.

Visitors to Ruvuma Region can experience its unique culture through traditional dances like Ngoma and Chisenga that are still performed today. For outdoor-minded travelers there are activities like hiking Mt Hanang or fishing on Lake Nyasa. Nature lovers will love exploring Mahale National Park where they may catch glimpses of chimpanzees living in their natural habitat.

Ruvuma Region also has an interesting history; most notably it was the birthplace of Julius Nyerere who was Tanzania's first President after independence from Britain (1961). Therefore it holds special significance for many Tanzanians today as well as for visitors looking to gain insight into the nation's past.
