Visit Simiyu

Simiyu is a region in the Mara zone of Tanzania. It is located in the northwestern corner of the country, just below Lake Victoria and close to the Serengeti National Park. The main ethnic group living there are the Wasukuma people who speak Swahili as their primary language. Simiyu is known for its wide array of flora and fauna, and its lush landscapes make it a perfect setting for bird-watching and game viewing.

Tourist attractions include visiting Barikiwa Game Reserve to see zebras, buffaloes, antelopes, warthogs and many other species of wildlife that can be observed from nearby lodges or even on foot with a professional guide. Also worth seeing is Buhongwa National Monument which protects unique rock formations created by volcanic activity thousands of years ago.

The most interesting historical fact about Simiyu region is its connection with Julius Nyerere's speech given at Hajirai village in 1957 when he proclaimed Ujamaa: African socialism as one of his main ideals which later formed an integral part of Tanzanian constitution after independence from Britain in 1961.
