Visit South Pemba Region


The South Pemba Region is a coastal region in Tanzania. It is bordered by the Indian Ocean on one side, and by the regions of Tanga, Lindi and Ruvuma on the other sides. The main city of South Pemba Region is Mtwara, which serves as an important gateway for trade and commerce in southern Tanzania.

This region has a long historical legacy that can be traced back to 1000 AD when many prominent Swahili groups colonized it from neighboring countries. As such, this area holds many attractions for tourists looking to explore its fascinating culture and history.

One must-see attraction in South Pemba Region is Kitangari Beach where visitors can experience crystal clear waters along with white sandy beaches framed by tall palm trees swaying gently in the breeze. Another place to visit would be Kizimkazi Mosque where you can explore a beautiful 900 year old mosque overlooking the shoreline.

South Pemba also has several interesting historical facts associated with it, such as being home to one of Africa's oldest ports known as Kilwa Kisiwani - a site which was declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1981 due its cultural significance dating back centuries ago into antiquity.
