The population is predominantly rural with most people engaged in agriculture and livestock raising activities. Tabora has a rich history, marked by the presence of several major ethnic groups such as the Nyamwezi, Haya, and Hehe.

The area is known for its unique cultural heritage and breath-taking landscapes which make it an ideal destination for tourists looking to explore Tanzania's natural beauty. One popular tourist attraction in Tabora is Kisese Hill which provides breathtaking views from its peak overlooking Lake Burigi and Lake Victoria. Another site to visit is Usagara Falls where visitors can experience spectacular waterfalls that flow through lush green hillsides with beautiful scenery all around them.

Historically, Tabora served as a major trading post during the 19th century due to its strategic location on the caravan routes between East Africa's interior and coast regions. In addition, it was also an important military outpost during German colonial rule, serving as General Paul von Lettow-Vorbeck's headquarters before he was defeated at Morogoro in 1916 during World War I.
