Visit Tanga Region

Tanga Region is a province in northeastern Tanzania, bordered by the Indian Ocean. This region has something for everyone, from a vibrant culture to stunning natural scenery. Popular tourist attractions include Amani Nature Reserve, which offers some of the best bird-watching opportunities in Tanzania, and Pangani Beach, where visitors can relax on stunning sands and enjoy swimming and fishing.

This region also offers rich cultural experiences to its visitors. Tanga City is known as the 'Spice Island' due to its production of cardamom, cumin and cloves while Maziwe Island Marine Reserve provides unique opportunities to explore coral reefs teeming with marine life.

The area also has an interesting history; it was colonized by Germans in the late 1800s after having been occupied by Portuguese traders centuries before them. It played a pivotal role during WWII when Allied forces invaded Tanga Region in 1941 only to be defeated by German forces at Tanga Town. Visitors may still find remnants of this era such as war graves located on Msata Hill near Tanga Town or visit historical landmarks such as Saadani National Park - home of the oldest mosque in East Africa!
