Visit Zanzibar Urban/West

The Zanzibar Urban/West region of Tanzania is a coastal paradise that offers something for everyone. To the north lies the Indian Ocean, where visitors can enjoy white-sand beaches, crystal-clear waters, and stunning coral reefs. The island's lush tropical forests are perfect for exploration and wildlife viewing. There are plenty of cultural activities to experience in Stone Town, including a visit to famous sites like the Old Fort of Zanzibar or traditional markets on Forodhani Street.

Two of the most popular tourist spots on the island include Jozani Forest Reserve and Nungwi Beach. Jozani Forest Reserve is home to incredible red colobus monkeys, as well as numerous bird species. Nungwi Beach is one of Zanzibar's most iconic spots; it's known for its beautiful sunsets over pristine white sand beaches and turquoise waters.

An interesting historical fact about Zanzibar dates back to when Sultan Seyyid Said transferred his government from Muscat (now Oman) in 1840 and made it his official capital in 1841--marking an important time in history which was recognized by many as "The Year 1" for unified East Africa under his rule.
