Na Phra Lan Road, Grand Palace, Phranakorn, Bangkok 10200

The Grand Palace complex was established in 1782 and it consists of not only royal and throne halls, but also a number of government offices as well as the renowned Temple of the Emerald Buddha. It covers an area of 218,000 square meters and is surrounded by four walls, 1900 meters in length. After King Rama I ascended to the throne in 1782, the palace was built. Prior to this, the royal palace and center of administration had been located in Thonburi, on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River. For various reasons, the new King considered the former capital to be unsuitable and decided to establish a new capital on the other side of the river.

Here are some tips and tricks to help you make the most of your trip: * Book your tickets at least two weeks in advance, as this popular attraction sells out quickly. * Dress appropriately by wearing modest clothing that covers your shoulders and knees. * Plan to arrive early before the gates close at 3 pm, as there can be long lines during peak hours. * Wear comfortable shoes as there’s lots of walking involved to explore the palace grounds. * Take plenty of water and snacks along with you so you can refuel while exploring per court’s regulations. Also, have a map printed out or on your phone prior to arriving so it’s easier for navigation inside the complex grounds which contains numerous buildings and temples, large gardens and courtyards filled with sculptures & art pieces from different historical periods that are sure to delight all visitors!
