Visit Phayao


Phayao is a city in Northern Thailand that is known for its picturesque landscapes and rich cultural heritage. This small city sits on the banks of Lake Phayao, which offers stunning views and tranquil waterside walks. Tourists can explore the city's many temples, including Wat Si Khom Kham which houses a Buddha statue cast in gold. There are also many traditional markets to visit, such as the Night Bazaar Market where visitors can buy local handicrafts and try delicious street food.

For a more relaxing experience, visitors should take a boat ride around Lake Phayao and explore some of the nearby islands or take part in one of the lake's cultural activities like fishing or kayaking. There are also plenty of natural spots to discover around Phayao such as Doi Luang National Park, home to abundant wildlife including wild boar and gibbons.

Historically, Phayao was once an independent kingdom from 1328-1786 before it became part of Siam (modern day Thailand). The famous Thai poet Sunthorn Phu hailed from this area too!
