Visit Fakaofo

Fakaofo, one of the three atolls that make up the country of Tokelau in the South Pacific Ocean, is a tropical paradise full of stunning beaches and breathtaking scenery. It has a population of just over 600 people living in two villages each with its own church.

The main tourist attractions are Fakaofu and Nukunonu Islands. Fakaofu offers beautiful white sand beaches surrounded by lush green coconut palms while Nukunonu has magnificent coral reefs perfect for snorkeling and diving. Visitors can also take part in traditional activities like weaving mats or fishing with locals.

A noteworthy historical fact is that Fakaofo was once called Bowditch Island after Nathaniel Bowditch who visited it during his voyage aboard the brig Pearl to explore Polynesia in 1822-23.

Today, visitors to Fakaofo can tour ancient archeological sites such as Mua Vaipuna (an ancient burial ground) or explore World War II relics located on some of its islands. Whether you're looking for stunning beaches or unique historical sites, Fakaofo promises an unforgettable island holiday experience!
