Visit Kasserine Governorate


Kasserine Governorate is located in west-central Tunisia, along the Algerian border. The city of Kasserine is the governorate's capital. This region has a unique history and culture that makes it an amazing destination to explore.

The scenery here includes rolling hills, amazing valleys and towering mountains dotted with white-washed villages - making this area perfect for outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, birdwatching and cycling. There are also some interesting historical sites to visit in Kasserine including ancient Roman ruins at El djem and Sbeitla, as well as a 17th century fortress at Mateur.

In addition to its landscape and cultural attractions, Kasserine Governorate also has an interesting history: it was the site of fierce battles during both World War I and World War II - notably it was where Allied forces stopped German advances into Tunisia in 1943 during Operation Torch. In recognition of these events there are many memorials commemorating those who lost their lives during this battle scattered throughout the region.
