Visit Kebili Governorate

Kebili Governorate is a desert region located in southern Tunisia. It is the largest governorate in the country, consisting of multiple oases and rive valleys surrounded by sand dunes and salt flats. The area is known for its impressive archaeological sites, including the ancient city of Dougga, which dates back to the Roman Empire.

Tourists visiting Kebili should not miss out on taking a trip to see Chott el Fejej, an enormous saline lake that's home to many species of migratory birds. There are also several fascinating prehistoric cave paintings found in various locations throughout the region.

Kebili's history stretches back as far as prehistoric times and it was once part of Carthage before becoming part of Tunisia following its independence from France in 1956. In more recent times, Kebili has become a center for traditional handicrafts such as leather goods and pottery production.
