Visit Funafuti

Funafuti is the capital of the island nation of Tuvalu and is located in the Pacific Ocean. It's a small atoll with a population of around 6,000 people who are mainly fishermen and farmers. The main industry is fishing, but tourism has become an important source of income in recent years.

One popular location to visit on Funafuti is Fongafale Islet where you can find the local market and government buildings. There's also Funafala Islet which offers visitors stunning views as well as some excellent snorkeling opportunities due to its shallow coral reefs. For history buffs, there's Nanumea Island which was an important trading post for whalers from Europe and America during the 19th century.

Funafuti has a rich culture dating back centuries and it was first inhabited by Polynesians about 2,000 years ago before becoming part of Britain's Gilberts Protectorate in 1892. In 1975, Tuvalu became independent from Britain with Funafuti being established as its capital city soon afterwards.
