Visit Vaitupu

Vaitupu is the third largest of the 9 atolls that make up Tuvalu. It is located in the Pacific Ocean, 1,000 km north of Fiji, and it's one of the smallest countries on earth. The island has a population of just over 500 people.

Tourists visiting Vaitupu can explore its stunning white sand beaches and crystal clear waters which are ideal for swimming and snorkeling. There are many cultural sites to discover including ancient stone mounds (pulaka pits) where local communities once grew taro root, as well as traditional thatched-roof village houses with interconnecting pathways to explore.

The island also has a unique historical past with strong ties to Christian missionary work going back to 1835 when John Williams from London arrived on Vaitupu and converted many of its inhabitants to Christianity overnight. This is commemorated every year on August 11th when locals celebrate 'John Williams Day' in his honour.
