The Eastern Region of Uganda is a diverse and beautiful area located in the eastern part of the country. It is bordered by Kenya to the east and South Sudan to the north, as well as several other regions in Uganda. The region is known for its wildlife, including elephants, chimpanzees, leopards and lions. Visitors can also explore its many national parks, including Kidepo Valley National Park which offers some of the most breathtaking scenery in all of Africa. Additionally, those interested in history should visit Igongo Cultural Centre near Mbarara which houses artifacts from centuries-old cultures that used to live in this area. A unique historical fact about Eastern Uganda is that it was once part of an ancient kingdom called Bunyoro-Kitara Empire from 1300-1800 AD which ruled over a large swath of Central Africa at its peak.
