Visit Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast


Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast is a region in western Ukraine near the border of Poland. It is known as a culturally rich area due to its unique blend of Polish, Hungarian, and Ruthenian influences. The region's major city is also called Ivano-Frankivsk and it offers a range of attractions for visitors: the 17th century Rynok Square, which has old churches and monuments; the Museum of Art with its wide variety of artifacts from history; and Shevchenkove Park with its fantastic view over the Carpathian mountains.

For outdoor enthusiasts, there are plenty of activities to be found nearby including skiing at Drahobrat ski resort or taking part in water sports on Lake Synevyr or in one of the many mountain rivers. For an interesting historical fact about this area, it was once part of Galicia - a province within Austria-Hungary between 1772 and 1918 when it was transferred to Poland before finally becoming Ukrainian territory after World War II in 1945.
