Kherson Oblast is a region in southeastern Ukraine, located on the Black Sea. It is known for its long beaches and rich cultural heritage. Kherson has many historical monuments, churches and monasteries scattered throughout the countryside. An interesting fact about this region is that it was once part of the ancient Tauric Chersonesus kingdom which existed from the 5th century BC until it became part of Russia in 1783 after being conquered by Catherine the Great.
