Visit Kyiv Oblast

Kyiv

The Kyiv Oblast is a region located in the northern part of Ukraine. It encompasses the city of Kyiv, the capital and largest city in the country. The oblast is home to numerous nature reserves and other protected areas, as well as lots of historical sites, making it an ideal destination for tourists. Among its most popular attractions are Kievo-Pechersk Lavra, an ancient monastery complex; Hydropark Island on the Dnieper River; and Mezhyhirya Residence, a luxurious estate that was once owned by former President Viktor Yanukovych.

In addition to its natural beauty and historical sites, there is also much to learn about Kyiv Oblast's history. It was first established in 1932 during Soviet times as part of Ukraine's administrative organization into regions or oblasts. During World War II (also known as The Great Patriotic War), it served as one of Ukraine's most important military fronts against Nazi Germany's forces. Today it remains an important part of Ukrainian history and culture, with many reminders from both past wars and more recent events like Euromaidan still scattered around its landscape today.
