Visit Ternopil Oblast


The Ternopil Oblast is a region in western Ukraine, located along the border with Poland. It covers an area of 12,800 sq km and has a population of almost 1.3 million people. The city of Ternopil is the regional capital as well as the economic, political and cultural center of the Oblast.

Ternopil Oblast is known for its picturesque landscape featuring hills, lowlands, meadows and forested areas. This region offers plenty of interesting places to visit: Pochaiv Monastery - one of the oldest monasteries in Ukraine; Kamianets-Podilskyi Castle - an impressive fortress dating back to medieval times; and Chortkiv Castle - built at the end of 16th century by Polish nobles.

An interesting historical fact about Ternopil Oblast is that it was formally part of Galicia which was part of Austria-Hungary until 1921 when it became part of Poland before finally becoming part Ukrainian territory after World War II.
