Gates of the Arctic National Park and Preserve is a vast 8.4-million-acre expanse located in the heart of Alaska’s Brooks Range. This pristine wilderness encompasses snowcapped mountains, glaciers, tundra valleys, wild rivers, and boreal forest - all of which can be explored by foot or canoe. Visitors to this spectacular landscape will have the chance to observe abundant wildlife such as muskoxen and moose while exploring its dramatic terrain characterized by steep canyons, alpine ridges and river valleys. Two must-see spots are Arrigetch Peaks where visitors can view three icy spires rising over 6,000 feet off the valley floor; or Frigid Crags for an incredible panoramic view from atop a rocky peak surrounded by sheer cliffs more than 1,500 feet tall.
