Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument is a stunning location situated near Flagstaff, Arizona. The site contains a volcanic cinder cone that erupted around A.D. 1064-1065, leaving behind colorful lava flows and other evidence of its activity. Visitors to this remarkable monument can expect to see an otherworldly landscape of deserts, forests and spectacular views of the San Francisco Peaks. One of the highlights at Sunset Crater is the 600-year old Lava Flow Trail where visitors can explore some of the cinders left by the volcano’s eruption while learning about its history and cultural significance to nearby tribes.
