Discover Oatman

48

Oatman, located in the western United States, is an old mining town nestled in the Black Mountains of Arizona. It is situated just off of historic Route 66 and is home to a few dozen residents as well as wild burros that roam the streets. Once a boomtown, Oatman was bustling with thousands of miners during its heyday in the early 1900s.

Today visitors can explore what remains of this former gold rush town and take part in various activities like exploring nearby abandoned mines, watching gunfights staged by actors dressed up like bandits and cowboys, or taking pictures with burros who wander around town looking for treats. The most popular event each year is Burro Days which celebrates Oatman by having parades with wild burros followed by a rodeo at night. Visitors will also find plenty of shopping and restaurants where they can get souvenirs or sample dishes that reflect the area's local culture like chili con carne or rattlesnake stew.
