Griffith Park, located in the city of Los Angeles, is one of the largest urban parks in North America. Covering over 4,300 acres of land, the park is a green oasis in the heart of the bustling city. It is named after its benefactor, Griffith J. Griffith, who donated the majority of the park’s land to the city in 1896. The park offers a variety of recreational activities including hiking, horseback riding, and golfing, and is home to a number of popular attractions.

One of the must-see attractions in Griffith Park is the Griffith Observatory, which offers stunning views of the city and the stars. The park also houses the Los Angeles Zoo, a merry-go-round dating from 1926, and the Greek Theatre, a popular outdoor amphitheater. The park’s extensive network of hiking trails, including a popular one leading up to the Hollywood Sign, provides visitors with a chance to escape the city and immerse themselves in nature.

Plan your visit

  1. Make sure to bring plenty of water and sun protection, as it can get very hot in Griffith Park during the summer months.

  2. Wear comfortable shoes as there are many trails and hills throughout the park.

  3. Be aware that cars have limited access to some parts of the park, so if you plan on doing a lot of walking, make sure you plan your route accordingly.

  4. Check out some of Griffith Park’s amazing views from Mount Hollywood or Observatory Hill for some great photo opportunities!

  5. Bring a picnic lunch and snacks, as there are plenty of spots throughout the park to relax and enjoy the scenery while having a bite to eat!
