Yosemite National Park is an American national park located in the western Sierra Nevada of Central California, bounded on the southeast by Sierra National Forest and on the northwest by Stanislaus National Forest. The park is managed by the National Park Service and sits in four counties: centered in Tuolumne and Mariposa, extending north and east to Mono and south to Madera County. Designated a World Heritage site in 1984, Yosemite is internationally recognized for its granite cliffs, waterfalls, clear streams, giant sequoia groves, lakes, mountains, meadows, glaciers, and biological diversity. Almost 95% of the park is designated wilderness.
Plan your visit
Planning ahead is key when visiting Yosemite National Park. Start by researching the park and reading up on the different experiences available. Make sure you’re aware of any restrictions or closures due to COVID-19 and any other regulations in place. Book accommodation near Mariposa, as it’s the closest town to the park and is a great base for explorations in Yosemite. Reserve camping spots well in advance if possible; spaces tend to fill quickly! Pack clothing layers that are appropriate for warm weather during summer months and be prepared for sudden changes in temperature from day to night - bring a coat! Remember your camera equipment, binoculars, sunscreen, hat and insect repellent too! Lastly, plan out specific hikes or activities you’d like to do beforehand so you can make the most of your journey into beautiful Yosemite National Park.
