Beach, Park

1 Balboa Pier, Newport Beach, CA 92661
Services:

Built in 1906, this pier offers a retro-themed diner & is popular for fishing & watching the sunset.

The pier is a popular fishing spot. The fish caught from the pier consist mostly of mackerel and flounder. Additionally, the pilings are home to a large population of starfish that feed on the large colonies of mussels growing there, and are easily spotted at low tide. Fishermen catching starfish by mistake are a relatively common sight.

Plan your visit

  1. Arrive early - Balboa Pier is a popular destination, and the pier can get crowded during peak times. To maximize your experience, try to get there as early in the morning as possible.

  2. Wear comfortable shoes - The pier is not huge, but you will be doing a fair amount of walking due to its winding structure so it’s important that you wear comfortable shoes with good grip and support as you explore the area.

  3. Bring sun protection - Sunscreen is essential for any outdoor activity at Newport Beach, where bright sunshine can easily burn unprotected skin within minutes! Make sure you have hats and sunglasses with UV protection on hand too!

  4. Grab a bite to eat - Balboa Pier has plenty of delicious options like restaurants offering local seafood specialties or classic beach snacks such as hotdogs and hamburgers that are perfect for refueling while enjoying stunning ocean views from the pier’s edge.

5 . Check out nearby attractions - If you’re looking for more than just beautiful scenery along Balboa Pier, consider stopping by some nearby attractions such as surfing centers or taking an eco-tour of Newport Harbor by kayak or boat!
