The nearby Black Canyon National Park provides plenty of opportunities for hiking and camping while the Gunnison Gorge National Conservation Area is perfect for fishing, kayaking and rafting. During winter months, Montrose offers easy access to over 200 miles of groomed snowmobile trails as well as some amazing skiing/snowboarding opportunities at Powderhorn Ski Resort.
When visiting Montrose visitors can also explore its vibrant downtown area with its mix of art galleries and shops or take part in one of several annual events such as Ranch Rodeo or Cowboy Poetry Gathering. Also worth checking out is Ute Indian Museum which houses an extensive collection of artifacts from local Native American tribes.
