Black Rock Beach, located in the beautiful city of Kaanapali in the United States, is a paradise for beach lovers. It is a part of the larger Kaanapali Beach, which is often hailed as one of the best beaches in Maui. Black Rock Beach is renowned for its large, volcanic rock formation that divides the beach. This natural landmark is not just a sight to behold but also a popular spot for cliff diving, adding a touch of adventure to the tranquil setting.

While visiting Black Rock Beach, you can indulge in a variety of activities. Apart from swimming and sunbathing, snorkeling is a popular activity here due to the clear waters and abundant marine life. The beach is also home to the daily sunset cliff diving ceremony, a tradition that honors Maui’s King Kahekili. This event is a must-see, as a torch-bearing diver plunges off the black rock into the ocean, creating a spectacle against the backdrop of the setting sun.

Plan your visit

  1. Wear a hat and sunscreen to protect yourself from the sun when visiting Black Rock Beach.
  2. Respect the environment and make sure you don’t leave any trash behind after your visit.
  3. Be aware of strong waves, currents, and riptides that may be present at Black Rock Beach - enter the water only if you are an experienced swimmer!
  4. Don’t forget to bring along snorkeling gear for a unique view of Hawaiian marine life!
  5. Bring plenty of food and drinks with you as there is no restaurant or convenience store nearby Black Rock Beach.

Crystal clear water and usually a few friendly turtles will come and greet you. It’s difficult to find a parking spot as it is surrounded by resorts but it’s well worth it.
