Indian Tunnel is a remarkable lava tube located within the Craters of the Moon National Monument in Idaho, United States. This extraordinary geological formation, created by volcanic activity over 2000 years ago, is the largest of the monument’s accessible caves, stretching over 800 feet long. The tunnel’s roof has collapsed at several points, allowing sunlight to penetrate and illuminate the cavern’s interior, making it an ideal destination for explorers of all ages.

Visitors to Indian Tunnel can expect to witness a captivating blend of volcanic geology and local flora. The collapsed sections of the tunnel roof have formed natural skylights, fostering the growth of vibrant lichen and moss on the cavern walls. Additionally, the tunnel provides an excellent opportunity to observe the fascinating basaltic rock formations, including the unique ‘aa’ and ‘pahoehoe’ lava, making it a must-visit for geology enthusiasts.
