Smith Valley is an unincorporated community located in Lyon County, Nevada, United States. It is a rural area that is surrounded by stunning landscape and sprawling ranches. The area was originally settled as an agricultural community in the mid-19th century and remains generally undeveloped to this day.
The town consists of a few restaurants, stores, churches, RV parks and the Smith Valley School District office. It also serves as home to many retirees who moved here to take advantage of the relaxed lifestyle and small-town charm. There are numerous outdoor activities offered nearby such as fishing, boating at Topaz Lake State Park, camping in Washoe Lake State Park or skiing at Mt Rose Ski Tahoe.
Visitors to Smith Valley can visit historic downtown Yerington for unique shopping experiences or explore Fort Churchill State Historic Park with its ruins from the 1860s military outpost station along top riverbanks of the Carson River. Walking trails are available throughout the region offering spectacular views of snow capped mountains, sand dunes and wetlands teeming with wildlife like antelope and wild horses roaming free within sight of passing cars along Highway 95A & NV208 highways.
