Carlsbad Caverns National Park is an American national park in the Guadalupe Mountains of southeastern New Mexico. The primary attraction of the park is the show cave, Carlsbad Cavern. Visitors to the cave can hike in on their own via the natural entrance or take an elevator from the visitor center.

Plan your visit

  1. Check the weather before you go: Since it is a National Park, the temperatures can vary drastically from day to day. Dress appropriately and bring layers if necessary.
  2. Bring plenty of water: There are no water fountains in Carlsbad Caverns National Park so it is important to stay hydrated while exploring.
  3. Wear sturdy shoes: The cave floors are slippery and rocky, so make sure to wear shoes with good traction and support for your feet while walking around inside the caverns.
  4. Stay on marked paths: Safety comes first when visiting any National Park! Be sure not to stray off into unknown or unmarked areas as they could be dangerous or unstable terrain that could put you at risk of injury or worse!
  5. Don’t forget your camera! There are some truly amazing sights inside Carlsbad Caverns that you won’t want to miss out on capturing forever with photos!
