White Sands National Park is a stunning landscape located in the southern United States. This park stretches across 275 square miles and is known for its bright white sand dunes. These ever-shifting dunes are made from gypsum crystals, which create an amazing contrast with the intense blue sky of New Mexico. Visiting White Sands provides visitors with breathtaking views and plenty of outdoor activities such as camping, biking, and star gazing. While visiting White Sands National Park make sure to climb up Dune Life Nature Trail to get an incredible view of the entire area or take a trip out to Alkali Flat where you can observe ancient fossils among the unique rock formations.

Plan your visit

  1. Bring plenty of water, as the desert can be very hot and dry. Avoid dehydration by carrying enough water with you to stay hydrated throughout your trip.

  2. Wear sunscreen and sunglasses for protection from the sun’s rays. The white sand reflects the sunlight, making it even more intense!

  3. Wear comfortable shoes that provide good ankle support - there are lots of dunes that may require some climbing over during your visit!

  4. Be sure to bring a camera or phone for capturing amazing photos while exploring this unique landscape full of natural beauty! 5 .Bring binoculars if you’re interested in viewing wildlife like antelope, roadrunners and coyotes from a distance in their natural habitats !
