Park

Yellowstone National Park is an American national park located in the western United States, with parts in Wyoming, Montana and Idaho. It was established by the U.S. Congress and signed into law by President Ulysses S. Grant on March 1, 1872. Yellowstone was the first national park in the U.S. and is also widely held to be the first national park in the world. The park is known for its wildlife and its many geothermal features, especially Old Faithful geyser, one of its most popular. While it represents many types of biomes, the subalpine forest is the most abundant. It is part of the South Central Rockies forests ecoregion.

Plan your visit

  1. Check the weather and dress accordingly - Yellowstone can experience all four seasons in one day, so make sure you have warm clothes, rain gear, hats and gloves.

  2. Pack plenty of snacks - You’ll find several restaurants inside the park but if you plan to hike or do other activities away from these areas it’s best to bring along your own food and drinks.

  3. Stay on trails - To respect the land, stay on designated trails and don’t take shortcuts across meadows or through thermal areas as this is both dangerous and prohibited by the park rangers.

  4. Take photos at lower elevations early in morning - Get there first thing if you want to get a good shot of misty landscape surrounded by bison!

5 Be bear aware- Yellowstone is home to many wild animals including bears so always carry bear spray with you when hiking through forested areas and make noise while walking to let them know your presence ahead of time!
