Many travelers visit this part of the country for its natural beauty and outdoor recreational activities such as fishing, hiking and bird watching.

One popular tourist spot in the Colonia Department is Colonia del Sacramento, a historic city founded by Portuguese settlers in 1680. Visitors can explore the old town's cobblestone streets lined with colonial-style buildings or take a stroll along its picturesque harborfront promenade. Other must-see attractions include Faro del Puerto de San Gabriel lighthouse and Plaza Mayor square which hosts a lively market every Sunday morning.
