Visit Durazno Department


The Durazno Department of Uruguay is located in central Uruguay and is a popular tourist destination. The city of Durazno, the capital of the department, has many attractions to offer its visitors. The Cerro de las Animas (Hill of Souls) is a great spot for tourists to appreciate breathtaking views over all of Durazno and its surroundings. The Templo San Joaquin y Santa Ana (St. Joachim and St. Anne Church) is also a popular site for those interested in the local architecture, culture and history.

An interesting fact about this region is that it was part of Brazil until 1817 when Uruguay declared its independence from Portugal during what was known as the "Cisplatine War" between Argentina-Brazil on one side, and Uruguayan forces on the other side).
