Visit Tacuarembó Department

Tacuarembo is a department in northern Uruguay, located on the Brazilian border and close to the border with Argentina. It is well known for its undulating hills, rolling plains, and meandering streams. This delightful setting provides many opportunities for outdoor activities such as fishing, horseback riding, hiking and bird watching.

Tourists will find plenty of interesting things to explore in Tacuarembo. Visitors should not miss the Salto de Rocha National Park which offers visitors a chance to experience spectacular views of cascading waterfalls as well as stunning wildlife habitats and picturesque landscapes. The ancient town of Pintadito is also worth visiting; it was founded over 300 years ago by Jesuit missionaries and still retains much of its colonial charm.

An interesting historical fact about Tacuarembo is that it was home to renowned folk singer-songwriter Eduardo Mateo who wrote songs about his beloved homeland before his untimely death in 1970 at age 29. He continues to be remembered today through his work and legacy that can still be heard throughout Uruguay's rural communities where he grew up.
