Visit Vargas

The Vargas region is a coastal province of the country Venezuela. It is located in the northwest and borders Caracas. The capital of Vargas, Maiquetia, is home to Simon Bolivar international airport and also offers many beaches such as La Guaira and Ocumare.

Due to its location near Caracas, it is a popular tourist destination for its watersports activities due to the calm waves of the Caribbean Sea. Among other activities offered here are hiking, sightseeing and historic tours. Tourists can visit the city of La Guaira and explore its old colonial architecture or take a day trip to El Avila National Park that has trails suitable for all skill levels from easy walks to strenuous hikes up to peaks with amazing panoramic views over Caracas city.

Vargas also has an interesting historical background; it was named after Francisco de Vargas y Ponce de Leon who fought bravely against English privateers during colonial times in 1743 when they attempted to raid Puerto Cabello port town in what today is known as Carabobo state.
