Western Sahara is an autonomous region in northwest Africa, bordered by Morocco to the north, Algeria to the northeast, Mauritania to the east and south, and the Atlantic Ocean on its western coast. It has a land area of 266,000 square kilometers making it one of Africa's most sparsely populated regions. Western Sahara is home to a diverse array of habitats from vast desert plains and rocky outcroppings to mountains.

One of the main tourist attractions in Western Sahara is Dakhla Lagoon -a beautiful oasis with crystal clear waters that attract surfers from around the world with its strong winds and moderate waves. A visit here offers visitors striking views of coastal towns dotting white beaches surrounded by shimmering lagoons. Another great spot for tourists is El Aaiun City where they can explore its ancient fortress walls, old houses and historic monuments such as Grand Mosque built in 1627-1628 during Spanish occupation period .

An interesting historical fact about Western Sahara region is that it was one of last colonies liberated by Spain in 1975 after 400 years rule following Spanish-Moroccan war over this territory which continues until today between Morocco ,Polisario Front (independence movement) , Algeria and Mauritanian government .
